Holiday Hair Tips

By Dennis E. Price

Questions often asked before a holiday trip is what do you do with your hair outside of your normal routine.

The first obstacle is the sea and the damage caused by the salt water. This type of water is often found to be good for our complexion but has an opposite effect on our hair. Did you know that the salt often leaves our hair dry as the moisture is drained rather retained. A way round this happening is for certain cosmetics to be added to your hair which improves the more you massage into your scalp. The basis is that oils will be prevented from entering each strain leaving your hair shiny and healthy instead of limp.

Another terrific way to fix any damage is to apply a heat mask to your head for several minutes allowing the mask to work its wonder on dry hair. For maximum effect wear a shower cap for several minutes then rinse and apply the reminder to wet hair. You will not believe the results of the hair mask until you try for yourself.

Next obstacle would be the pool area. Although the swimming pools do not contain salt they do however have chlorine which is worse than salt according to the experts. Coloured hair will become damaged and may even turn green if the pool has too much chlorine.

A remedy is to try and protect your hair by using products which combat the chlorine. This can be achieved by applying anti chlorine products after you leave the pool to combat the effect of the damage from the pool. Rinse your hair in warm water before shampooing to clear any remaining chlorine.

One of the things which you do not think of when going on holiday overseas is the tap water. Some of the locations such as Scotland has naturally fresh water pumping through the taps whereas England has water with lime scale which is often referred to as hard water.

Other countries tend to have hard water which is not suitable for drinking or cleaning your pearly whites. In those countries always use tap water to be on the safe side especially when rinsing your hair at the end of your shower for maximum effect.
