Where Should My Parent Live?

By Scott Marsh

If you're a senior looking for a great place to settle down, you should consider senior living in Colorado Springs. This town has a lot to offer for retirees. We'll discuss a few of the reasons we rank in the top 10 for great places to retire and also tell you about some of our senior living options.

There is a good reason that America the Beautiful was written during a trip to our area: It's absolutely gorgeous! For one, the sky is the most beautiful sapphire blue you've ever seen. Fortunately, we average 247 days per year where can see these blue skies. And, you can also see Pike's Peak from almost anywhere in town. Within minutes, Colorado Springs residents can leave the city and be right in some of the most beautiful mountains in the world.

If you have a hankering for a big city, Denver is only a short drive away. But, you might be surprised to learn that Colorado Springs has all the things you want from a bigger city. It has all the arts, entertainment, shopping and recreation you could ask for, but with the charm of a smaller town.

Although we have four seasons, outdoor activities are possible during all of them. Even in the winter, because our common sunny days, the snow never sticks around for more than a few days. Our winters are regarded as mild to most folks.

We also have all the standard options for senior retirement facilities. We have a great assortment of independent living communities, assisted living facilities, and of course nursing homes or skilled nursing facilities.

Independent living facilities are for seniors that do not require assistance, but prefer to live in a community that is sensitive to their needs and lifestyle. The facilities are generally apartment style living or free standing apartments. They offer club houses and activities for their residents.

Assisted living facilities are for those seniors that require a step up in their care. They offer some of the same amenities as do independent living facilities, but also have round the clock caregivers to help with the needs of their residences. These facilities are for those that need assistance with their activities of daily living. Although these facilities don't provide medical care, they can help you coordinate your medical needs.

Colorado Springs also has terrific nursing homes. These are for those residents that require more serious medical attention than can be provided by the other senior living facilities. These facilities have a caregiver on staff 24/7 and are prepared to offer medical assistance as needed.

Colorado Springs is a great place to retire. And, if your in the market for an assisted living center, I'd like to suggest Constant Care of Colorado springs. It's a great facility with a wonderful staff and similar folks ready to add to their family.
